Brighid's Runes Anthology: edited by Rachel Mica McCann
In Aid of the Green Belt Movement Rachel Mica McCann has produced and edited a lovely collection of women's poetry entitled Bridhid's Runes .
Rachel describes the book as
"'Brighid's Runes' is a collection of around 40 poems by over twenty women from various parts of Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland. The poems celebrate the sacred in every day life and our relationship with the earth. They are funny, poignant, eloquent and passionate! Some of the poets are well published, others are new to print. The money raised from the sale of the book will go towards supporting Women's and Earth healing projects, especially the Green Belt Movement in Kenya established by nobel prize winner Wangari Maatthai which has empowered women through planting trees and community development."
It's a lovely collection and I'm delighted to be involved. Ms McCann has worked very hard to produce something that is worth reading, and for the Greenbelt Movement's sake, well worth buying!
Available directly from Rachel, e-mail: rmicamc@yahoo.co.uk.

Welcome to the PPP
The Pagan Poetry Pages is entering its sixth year in 2007; founded by three Irishwomen Dawn, Socarie and Beirn it was created to be a space on the web devoted to the concept of Pagan poetry and the Pagan Poetrry Movement. The definition of "pagan poetry" is necessarily very wide; it can be defined as the expression of man's condition in relation to his physical environment or simply a poem written by a pagan.
The PPP has undergone several incarnations; the current editorial staff consists of Beirn Stormy and Starchild.
Here on the PPP the living movement of poetry in the Pagan Community - and prose, shorts stories and Journals - is presented for your enjoyment. Our members section provides an archive of work, the chance to discuss poetry and books, present your work for feedback or simply enjoy the work of other writers.
Our Editions, 8 times a year, are chosen from both members work and outside submissions to editors@paganpoetrypages.com
MEMBERS SECTION; we have an active lively members section. Poets and writers are always welcome so sign up today. Please note there is one rule - you MUST post an introduction, it just means we can get to know a bit about you. Other than that, all you have to do is read, post and enjoy the site!

Pagan Poets Needed! Thursday, June 19, 2008 (09:41:29)

|
The Pagan Poetry Pages is a small and independent poetry site, founded in 2000 and
dedicated to quality poetry, particularly concerning (though not necessarily restricted
to) that with a spiritual or pagan slant.
For years we've published a range of poetry, Short Stories, Prose and Journals in 6-8
editions per year, online. We have a members' section where poems and writing in general
can be posted and discussed. We welcome articles and news from the world of writing and
poetry.
In the last year the PPP as it's affectionately known has beeen quieter than normal due
to other commitments on the part of the editorial team. But it is now being revamped and
rejuvenated!
A new edition is already in the works and regular editions will be appearing throughout
the year; we are also about to collate the PPP Anthology, showcasing the best of the
poems and other works and this will be sold to raise money for the PPP annual Poetry
Competition Prize Fund. The PPP anual Poetry Competition will be help from November and
the results announced in the Yule Edition.
We would love to hear from new poets, or indeed, renew our aquaintance with old friends.
We also welcome general prose, stories, and journals. Work can be submitted as members by
joining the PPP website, or by emailing submit@paganpoetrypages.com
Please include any biographical information and any details of previous publications,
books, anthologies etc that you would like to have included with your published
poem/work.

An Open Letter To The Government Of Ireland Saturday, August 25, 2007 (13:19:15)
|
|
The following has been sent to newspapers in Ireland and the US regarding the arrest and subsequent imposition of conditional bail agreement on seven protesters against the construction of the M-3.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I continue to be alarmed by the activities of the Irish government as regards the M-3 and other roadways being built in Ireland, and which are causing irreparable damage to the honor and memory of our ancestors. This morning I was acquainted with the fact that seven valued and highly respected protesters who were arrested last week at the Hill of Tara were granted bail under the condition that they refrain from protecting the history of this ancient and holy land by preventing the forward movement of bulldozers and other machinery being used to rend and tear the earth, under which lies the bones and remains of warriors, kings and queens, all our ancestors. Who is it that has sold out our old Mother? Who is it that is guilty of complicity with money hungry monsters bent on the destruction of all that is holy in the land of the Irish? Who is it that has sold our old Mother for the sake of greed? Sirs and Madams, how is it that you can rest at night with the voices of those you have disinterred ringing in your ears? Have you no shame? Out of the past resounds an echo of desperation and sorrow, a grouping of words that are relevant and timely for these acts of terror you are allowing to be perpetrated upon the land.
Mise Eire (I Am Ireland)
by Padraic Pearse
1912
“I am Ireland
I am older than the Old Woman of Bearra,
Great is my glory,
I who gave birth to
Cuchulain the brave,
Great is my shame,
My own family
Have sold their mother.
I am Ireland,
I am lonelier than the
Old Woman of Bearra.”
My questions to the powers that be are, do my husband and I ever return to Ireland? Do we encourage our children and grandchildren to seek out their heritage in a land that is no longer recognizable as the beloved land of their ancestors? Or, do we rather tell the story to them of how beautiful it was, once upon a time, and warn them not to venture to a place that is no longer the Ireland of the Welcomes? Sirs and Madams, shame upon you and all that you have not done to protect our precious heritage and history!!! Shame upon you for compromising yourselves and the rest of us who claim Irish descendency, only for the sake of satisfying your own avarice!!! Shame upon you and your atrocities!!! Shame upon each of you for selling your old Mother!!!
